Hi lovely people! I wanted to open this month’s catch up by thanking everyone who has taken the time to subscribe. This month has been a month of growth and connection and I’ve started forming lovely friendships with some of you. I even have my first paid subscriber!
This month’s reads included “One Dark Window” by Rachel Gillig. Romantasy and fantasy readers should check it out; in all honesty I’m not big into Romance but it wasn’t overbearing and there’s a wonderful plot. I also enjoyed the female lead.
Elspeth Spindle lives in Blunder, a kingdom threatened by the mist and the Spirit of the Wood. An infection has run rampant in the kingdom and those who catch it are sentenced to death. Elspeth came down with the infection 11 years ago and now has a spirit that lives in her head; she has nicknamed him the Nightmare and calls upon him in times of need. Elspeth’s time is running out; the Nightmare is growing stronger. With the help of a group of highway men she aims to find the cure to the infection and collect the 12 Providence Cards.
I also started (and finished) Exeter Girls by Jason R. Carpenter. I’m typically not much for non-fiction but this was interesting as it was letters written by Dr. Ladd, his employees, and “patients” of the Ladd School. Growing up, I heard so many stories about the Ladd School and even explored its ruins a few times, but this collection of letters brings attention to the individuals that lived there during the early years. Just wow.
I’ve joined a local horror book club and will be starting The Street Between the Pines by JJ Alo Sunday!
This month I’ve been writing, of course I have! On November 16th my poetry collection “Read Receipts” by Ella C. Potter is set to be released. This collection has been fun and grueling. It was a collection that needed to be put together and included plenty of reflection. As one of the poems says, I no longer know that woman.
This collection is a bit different than the Arcadians series, which lead to me choosing to use a penname. Images of nature are frequent but nature wasn’t the primary inspiration. Relationships & loss were the main catalysts of this particular piece. I happened upon a tin of old poems that I had typed on the back of old receipts and used them to create this collection (hence the name). There’s approximately 100 poems within the pages and the voice of someone I hardly know now mingled with the person I have become. I hope you enjoy it.
Also, don’t forget to head over to my Vocal Page to read free poetry! Every read helps. For each read I receive a small commission (which goes towards groceries or my student loans!)
I’m still looking for Beta Readers for my latest small town murder mystery novel, Boys Will be Boys. If you’re interested, send me an email or a message. I can also send you the opening chapter before you agree to anything! Below is a breakdown of the novel:
Lexi Croft vanished from her bedroom 2 years ago. Millburrow police ruled it as a run away, assuring her aunt and cousin that Lexi was safe somewhere. Because of her family history, no one really cared. Except for her cousin, Maddy, who knew right away that something was wrong. When remains are found in a local park, Lexi’s case is opened back up. Despite the police chief’s assertion that the death was accidental, Maddy begins in her own investigation.
Following Lexi’s disappearance, Maddy began dating her neighbor, Lincoln. The boy next door isn’t everything he seems. Lincoln tags along with her while she searches for her cousin, but he knows what really happened to Lexi that fateful night. Through the novel he wars with guilt and self preservation.
When another girl goes missing, Maddy increases her efforts and joins forces with an ex deputy intent on finding the truth. Friends turn on each other and relationships are tested. Lives hang in the balance. What really happened in Millburrow the night Lexi Croft went missing?
I’m actively working on spreading the word about my writing. From creating bookmarks to leave at local coffee shops & libraries, to creating a fun community on Insta with my reading friends, to connecting with all of you.
With that being said, if you enjoy my work, and want to help, send me a message. It could mean free stuff for you!
This week I sent out the care packages to my first street team members! (Bookmarks, stickers, books, and personalized letters).
Also, if you’re a fellow writer we should connect! Let’s promote one another!
Thank you for being here! This concludes my October recap…unless of course you’re a paid subscriber…if you are be sure to read “Britzdrill Mansion” tomorrow! I did introduce this story during September’s note and will be sharing it in its entirety tomorrow. Like other things I’ve written, it has a bit of a Gothic feel. Think 26 Brentwood Avenue and The Strange Case of Cousin Felix. It is set in the vicinity of a Victorian mansion. Need I say more?
Have a great rest of your day everyone and feel free to reach out, even if you just want to chat.
