Every year, I feel like December flies by. There’s so many things to do, so many people to see…it’s just a lot. This year particularly seems busy, perhaps it’s because I’ve spread myself just a bit too thin. (Think of the That 70s show episode where Kitty compares herself to a loaf of bread…yep). Anyways, my goal for the month is to REMEMBER the month. I don’t want to just float through it trying to check off boxes that I think need to be checked. I’ll cover my responsibilities but will not be taking on more. I will say no. This month is about living. What does that look like to a writer/reader?
I will be dropping off books to new stores/mailing them
I will write every day because I WANT TO
I will read…I’ll just curl up and read by the light of a wonderfully glowing Christmas tree for hours and forget the world for a while
I will be on my Bookstagram minimally
I’ll be making a point to go for a drive with hot chocolate to see Christmas lights
I probably won’t answer texts/calls/messages in a timely manner (sorry!)
December is my month and I will be ending 2024 wrapped in a literary cocoon.
Who’s with me?
My first read of the month was “Two Can Keep a Secret” by Karen McManus and I ABSOLUTELY loved it. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of her books this holiday season. I regret waiting so long to pick this one up from my shelf. Below is a quick breakdown of the novel:
When Ellery's mom is entered into rehab, Ellery and her twin are sent back to their mother's hometown to live with their grandmother. Their mother's twin vanished from that very town many years ago. Her disappearance still haunts the town, but so does the murder of another home coming queen 5 years ago. Both mysteries are unsolved. Ellery sees her self as a sleuth and is obsessed with the mysteries at hand.
Unfortunately, she finds herself at the center of another mystery when another girl goes missing and she begins receiving threats. Secrets abound and I was surprised by a few twists and turns.
A few of my favorite things about this novel included:
Unreliable Narrator (it’s not her fault!)
Cute small town (kind of)
Typical high school stereotypes
Plot twist!
I would definitely recommend picking this book up if you haven't already! I’ll let you know what I think about the others once I read them. I’m currently waiting on new glasses so reading is a bit of a stand still this week. With any luck, they’ll be arriving before the 14th.
Some cool things happening this month…
“Read Receipts” is being added to the shelves at Books on the Square in Providence, RI.
My works are being added to the shelves of Book Around in Pawtucket, RI.
I’ll be participating in the “Last Minute Shopping Event” in Exeter, RI on December 14th and 15th where I’ll be selling & signing books. I’ll also have homemade candles and some holiday decor. If you’re around, come say hi!
Don’t forget to support local book shops this month and to purchase from Indie Authors. If you’d rather buy directly from me, please head over to my Etsy shop.
I hope you’re doing well! I’ll be back later this month with a short story and perhaps another update ❤️
Be well, drink your coffee, read your books, and prioritize yourself!
-xoxo Katrina
